Talking sustainable travel on national TV

SWEDISH TELEVISION
I was invited already in May to come on the show as an expert guest on sustainable travel, but I had just arrived in Iran and since I don’t fly I would’ve had to go all the way back through Turkey, Europe and all to north of Sweden where the studio is. It would’ve taked about a week there and then another week back to Iran if I hurried. And then I would’ve missed the best season of Iran for nature as summer in beginning and it’s not too hot and not too cold.
So I turned the opportunity down.
I said no.
Luckily they still wanted me on the show so they reached out to me again a month later asking if I would be in Sweden during the fall when they would start the next season. So that’s how I ended up being on TV for the first time.
The show
So a little backstory to what kind of tv show this is. It’s a very old and respected TV show that is about consumerism and for consumers. They give tips and advice on everything imaginable that can be relevant for people and how they spend their money. They also investigate when companies do somethings wrong. It was an absolute honour to be asked to be there as a guest sharing my knowledge and tips on how we can travel more sustainably and how to travel without flying.
What we talked about
Since the show is in swedish, I thought I’d do a little summary of what we talked about.
She started off by introducing me as someone who travels a lot but has quit flying, and asked how long ago and why I decided to stop flying airplanes which you can read about here.
We also discussed my trip by land from Sweden to Iran.
Then I gave some tips on how to travel more sustainably, like traveling close by, do carbon offsetting and discussed why airplanes often are cheaper than trains.
These are all things I will be going into more in depth soon so keep an eye out for new posts here but also on my instagram as I share a lot of tips on sustainability on both Stories and posts there.

I love that Annika! Cycling as a means of transport for longer journeys has been a dream of mine for many years. Will definitely look to you for tips and inspiration on that 🙂

Thanks, Annika! Bicycling is such an amazing way of transport. I’m glad to see more people are starting to look at that as a way of traveling
